Copying / Communication Allowances

Copying and Communication allowances under the Copyright Act vary depending on the type of work being copied and the purpose of the copying. In the University context, copying and communication of copyright works will fall under one of the following categories:

1. Copying & Communication Under Statutory Licences (Copyright Act)
   (Copying and communication for the 'educational purposes of the University' including copying by staff for UWA course materials of print and graphic works and of broadcast audio visual works);
2. Copying Under a Commercial Lincence including:
   
   • Music Licence
   • Publisher's Licence (for journals, electronic works, etc);
3. Copying Outside a Licence including:
   
   • Fair Dealing Copying (Copying by individuals for themselves for 'research or study' or 'criticism or review')
   • Copying with Permission of Copyright Holder
   • Copying Insubstantial Portions
