Copyright Notices

The s.39A notice is required to be placed on or near photocopiers, scanners, computers etc in libraries and other places of the University where infringing copies are likely to be made. It provides legal protection in the event that staff or students infringe copyright (in non audio-visual materials) using equipment supplied by the University. The law requires this notice to be in A4 size

The s.104B notice is to be placed on VCR's, audio equipment, scanners, computers and any other equipment located in libraries adn other areas of the University on which infringing copies of audio visual material could be made. It provides legal protection in the event that staff or students infringe copyright in audio visual material such as films and recorded music. The law requires this notice to be in A4 size.

The s.49 notice is to be used by libraries or archives who provide electronic copying and communication document supply to users. When a library or archives supplies a user (not another library or archive) with electronic copies of material (e.g., by email), it must provide that user with the notice before or concurrent with the act of supply. There is no prescribed size for this notice.
